BRISTOL Old Vic SWALLOWS AND AMAZONS Thu 27 Nov-Sat 17 Jan 15. Eyebrows were raised when Tom Morris brought Arthur Ransom’s story of 1930s youthful adventure set in the Lake District adapted for the stage by Helen Edmundson back in 2010 (pictured). It was generally agreed to have been a great success. The Stage wrote at the time: “Helen Edmunson’s adaptation for the stage does an incredible job of translating this romantic idyll for a modern audience.” The story: two sets of children make adventure come alive one summer on the peaceful lakes of Cumbria in an era when Health and Safety didn’t exist – just an exuberance for life, pirates and buried treasure. Nightly at 7pm except Sunday Tues and Sat 2pm matinees and some morning performances. Tickets: £5-£30. £10 preview tickets (27 Nov – 2 Dec).
