The delayed Axbridge Pageant originally planned for August 2020 will take place next year in 2022. The committee met this week to decide on the practicalities of staging the mass community play that is traditionally held every 10 years in the town square. There was an overwhelming desire to press ahead with the popular event despite the recent uncertainties about Covid-19. With the economy and society opening up recent mass participation events have shown the public are keen to embrace outdoor theatre and participation activities again.

The dates for your diary at Saturday, Sunday and Bank Holiday Monday from 27-29 August 2022. The pageant begins at 3pm daily in front of an audience of around 650 seated in grandstands on three sides of the square. In the build up to the show there are rehearsals for each of the scenes from the mass Lady Day Fair to the more theatrical scenes with fewer people such as the Romano-British funeral scene.

More information and details will be published in the next few months with a major recruitment drive in the New Year – although all expressions of interest and those wishing to help in any capacity are welcome before. Email production@axbridgepageant.com
