By Harry Mottram: Images of beautiful women, crazy trains and of Italian retro scenes including depictions of Marylin Monroe will be on show this weekend when around 30 local artists display their work. The art exhibition is set to take place in Clevedon’s Christ Church Arts Centre in the North Somerset coastal resort which became a focus for the arts in recent years but is still a place of worship. Built between 1838 and 1839 the Grade II listed building is one of Clevedon’s most prominent land marks – apart from the pier.
The art group staging the exhibition on Saturday 25th July, 2025, is the culmination of an art course open in the week for those who can attend mainly on a Tuesday at Seasons Art in the Clevedon location. The courses aim to combine exceptional art tuition with a comprehensive curriculum covering the fundamentals of fine art and illustration in step-by-step classes in a warm and friendly environment, where people could meet and make new friends.
Linda Mottram who attended the course said she was keen to understand and experiment the various techniques used by artists and feels the exhibition showcases the group’s wide variety of styles and skills. She said: “Although we tried media such as collage, abstract and acrylics I preferred water colours and pencils – but all the students found each type of media of interest with some deciding to stay on for a second year. My favourite subject are faces and particular beautiful women – but each to their own.”
The exhibition reveals how different art students have approached the subjects under study with some choosing a realist path while some on the course have taken a more abstract approach.
