By Harry Mottram: Bath City’s time in National League South is over. On Tuesday night the men’s team lost 2-1 to AFC Totton at the Snows Stadium – a result that condemns them to play in the lower Southern League from August.
Manager Scott Bartlett speaking to Bath City Radio’s Mark Stillman following the loss said it was probably inevitable but the team had tried to give the possibility of staying up a chance – but it was not to be. He said: “The lads couldn’t have given us a lot more and that’s the level we are at as the effort levels were outstanding.”
He was realistic about the situation saying ‘it is what it is’ but if the team had played the way they had in the last six games and had a couple more games, then they may have stayed up as the ‘performances were good’. However, one aspect of the team he said was perhaps there’s not enough competition for places and it can feel a little ‘comfortable’ for City players – essentially ruing the fact the club hasn’t got enough quality players at the moment. These may seem like excuses and to be fare, Scott was handed the poisoned chalice when given the job of manager when only wins would do to stay up.

“I’m looking forward to rebuilding,” he said, “and seeing who wants to be part of that and growing the club in terms of the football side and having a team we can be proud of.”
He added. “We have a sprinkling of players who can play at a higher level with some good, experienced players in the team.”
The team has much more potential he said but for ‘whatever reason’ the team had not been put together to get the results needed. And he fired a warning to the team that although they would be playing in a lower league it was going to be a tough fight and the teams they will play will make it hard.

Bath Rugby: On Saturday 18th April in the English Gallagher Prem they play Harlequins, at 17:30pm – also at the Rec. In the Prem they sit one point behind Saints having had three wins from the last three games. To be champions they need Saints to slip up and for Bath to get maximum points in their remaining games – seeing off Leicester in June if possible.
